Returning Protocol

Is it wrong to return something you bought, only to re-purchase it at the sale price?  If I was reading the looks of the check-out clerk correctly she was not too thrilled about my behavior.  I bought some face soap with my CVS bucks (so, yes it was free to me :-)   and then saw in the mailer that it was on sale this week.  So, I returned my unused face soap and re-bought it.  Is that wrong?  Let me know what you think.  I’m trying to save money around here, but I don’t want to break rules.  Thanks for your input.

  1. I don’t think it is wrong. I wonder why it bothered the checker? Although unless you needed to return to the store anyway, are you sure you saved money since you used gas to ge to the store?

  2. Nope. I save my receipts for that VERY purpose. As long as the product is not opened, you are totally entitled to do this. Good for you!

  3. Thanks ladies! Angela, CVS was on the same street as the grocery store I had to visit, so it didn’t cost me hardly anything in gas. Good point though. It was nice talking with you too. You are a huge encouragement to me.
    Maryanne, I really appreciate your tips on saving. Also, your posts on enjoying your little ones have been an encouragement to me to not get so bogged down in my rushing around, but to stop and appreciate who God has created them to be. I hope and pray that you are doing well.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with taking advantage of the sales price, and some stores will give you a price adjustment (without having to return and rebuy) if any item you’ve bought, used or unused (usually clothing stores) goes on sale within ten days or so of your purchase. J Crew or Banana Republic did it for me over the phone since I’d ordered with my card.
